Welcome message from the Provost

I welcome all returning students to the start of the 2016/2017 academic year.

I look forward to another year with our returning students and warmly welcome our new entrants.

Welcome to Lancaster University Ghana (LUG). I know you have all worked incredibly hard to get here and I’d like to congratulate you on your achievement.

Lancaster University is one of UK's top universities, consistently highly ranked among the top ten in the UK league tables and established as a world player in research and teaching with LUG as the only British university branch campus in Africa.

We are thrilled that you have joined our prestigious institution of higher education. Our Foundation Programme is the only one of its kind on the African continent officially accredited by the British Accreditation Council. The University is also investing in expanding the campus, ensuring our facilities match our reputation for excellence.

Since our inception 3 years ago we have achieved exceptional results and growth through excellence in teaching, innovation, and developing a world class student experience in Ghana. BAC accreditation, opening of a new campus, 5 years re-accreditation by the National Accreditation Board are some major achievements that the University is very proud of.

LUG students have a unique advantage when it comes to exchange programmes. Currently there are two annual trips at Lancaster University Ghana of which students can take advantage. These are the exciting summer trips to Lancaster UK and Murdoch University Dubai. This year, Lancaster University (UK) and Boston University (US) came together to organize a 6 week study abroad program in Ghana for their health students which focused on public health issues and aspects of microbiology.

During your time here you will learn from academics who are leading researchers in their field, allowing you to explore the very latest thinking in your subject. Academic studies will only form one part of your student life, though. We hope that you will also make the most of the social and sporting opportunities made available to you via your Students’ Representative Council as well as all the other campus facilities and events organised throughout the year.

We’re very pleased to have you join us and I hope that you have a very happy and productive time here as we all proudly look forward to our 3rd anniversary and the graduation of the Class of 2017.

With best wishes,
