This summer, LUG’s Careers and Employability Department placed has placed students in internship positions with over 25 companies in Ghana, Nigeria, UK and other parts of the world.

These placements are in industries such as the financial industry, education, media, law, hospitality, oil and gas etc. in companies such as Lancaster University Ghana, Access Bank, Tullow Oil, Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, AB & David, Cal Bank, Ecobank Songhai Advisory LLP both in UK and Ghana amongst others.

Internships placements at LUG allows our students gain experience and specific skills in the type of environment that they might aspire to join when they graduate. It also allows students to gain a better understanding of these industries to allow them to make a more informed choice after graduation.

What stands out to employers is those students who also have real world work experiences by the time they graduate. This makes them more marketable; as they may require less training and are assumed to be able to handle more responsibilities.

Gaining work experience is a very important part of the academic process in Lancaster University Ghana, and is a great way for students to acquaint themselves with a field they are learning about. By the time of graduation, the students have confidence that the degrees they
are receiving are the right ones for them.

LUG students also undergo CV writing workshops, interview skills workshops and mock interview sessions during the academic year, to equip them with the basic skills before starting their internships.
