Lancaster University Ghana (LUG), through its Emerging Technology Centre (ETC), officially launched the Emerging Technologies Bootcamp last Saturday, an eight-week hands-on training programme for Senior High School students, fully funded by the KGL Foundation. The initiative aims to equip young people with practical skills in Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Coding, and other emerging technologies, preparing them for the future of work.

The Bootcamp brought together 30 students from diverse schools, including underrepresented communities, to gain practical experience in STEM, work on collaborative projects, and receive mentorship from industry professionals. The programme will culminate in a final project showcase, where students will demonstrate the innovative technologies they have developed over the eight weeks.

Isaac Apeakorang, the Chief Finance Officer for Transnational Academic Group, Africa, expressed his gratitude to the KGL Foundation for supporting the programme.

“We are extremely grateful to the KGL Foundation for their commitment to nurturing the next generation of innovators,” Apeakorang said. “Their support ensures that students, regardless of their background, can access world-class training and explore technologies that will shape the future.”

Speaking at the event, Edwin Osmond-Lamptey, PR Manager of the KGL Foundation, highlighted the Foundation’s motivation for partnering with LUG:

“We chose to partner with Lancaster University Ghana on this programme because we believe that students from public schools should also have access to quality infrastructure and learning opportunities. This training will equip them to leverage these resources and build the skills they need for the future.”

Students also expressed their appreciation for the initiative. Kayla, a participant from MCS International School, described the programme as transformative:

“I want to thank the KGL Foundation and Lancaster University Ghana for investing in us as high school students. This is an investment in progress, an investment in possibility, and an investment in young minds ready to change Ghana and the world through technology.”

The partnership between LUG and the KGL Foundation represents a milestone in promoting accessible, high-impact STEM education in Ghana, combining expert mentorship, practical learning, and opportunities for youth empowerment. Both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining and expanding the programme in the coming years to reach more students nationwide.
