On Monday, 20th March 2023, the head of the Law faculty at Lancaster University Ghana and private legal practitioner, Mr. Victor Brobbey Esquire was sworn in as the Deputy Chairperson of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE).
Prior to his appointment as the Deputy Chairperson, Mr. Victor Brobbey had served as Deputy Chairman on the NCCE Board since 2019.
At a short ceremony at the Jubilee House, He was sworn into office today by the president, His Excellency Nana Akuffo Addo, who administered three oaths; the oath of office, oath of allegiance and oath of secrecy to him at Jubilee House in Accra.
Mr Brobbey is expected to assist the chairperson of the National Commission for Civil Education (NCCE), Miss Kathleen Addy, to execute the mandate of the NCCE which is essential to promote and sustain democracy and inculcate in the Ghanaian citizenry the awareness of their rights and obligations through civic education.
His appointment is in line with Article 232 (1 and 2) of the 1992 constitution, which states that “the Commission shall consist of a Chairman, two Deputy Chairmen and four other members who shall be appointed by the President acting on the advice of the Council of State”.
In his remarks as the newly appointed Deputy Chairperson, Mr. Victor Brobbey stated that “We have been appointed at the start of what one can describe as the political season and the presence of politics always complicates the task of the civic educator. Nevertheless, please be assured that we will work hard to justify the trust that you have reposed in us”.
