Founder's STEM Scholarship

As part of its commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and academic excellenceLancaster University and Transnational Academic Group, the Founders of Lancaster University Ghana are proud to introduce “The Founders’ STEM Scholarship”This fully funded scholarship is designed to support an exceptional female student with a strong interest in pursuing an undergraduate degree in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM).

This policy outlines the objectives, eligibility criteria, benefits, and selection process governing the award of the scholarship, which forms part of LU and TAG’s broader mission to drive access to and equity in higher education.

Objective

To empower academically outstanding female students in STEM by removing financial barriers and providing them with access to world-class education at Lancaster University Ghana.

Scope

This scholarship will be awarded to one (1) deserving female student enrolling in a STEM-related undergraduate programme at Lancaster University Ghana starting in the 2025/2026 academic year. The scholarship will be awarded once every 4 years, so that only one Founders’ STEM Scholarship is active at any one time.

Scholarship Features

The scholarship package includes:

  • Full tuition and registration fee waiver (current value at $34,700) for the duration of the foundation year and undergraduate programme
  • Access to academic resources and structured learning support
  • Participation in mentorship and leadership development opportunities
  • The scholarship does not include accommodation, meals, transport, visas, and any other personal or related living expenses, as these remain the responsibility of the awardee

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be female
  • Have a strong academic background in STEM subjects with outstanding grades
  • Have applied to a STEM-related undergraduate programme at Lancaster University Ghana
  • Have completed or be completing WASSCE, A-Levels, IB, IGCSE or an equivalent qualification
  • Demonstrate genuine financial need
  • Exhibit leadership potential and a strong commitment to community impact
  • Be willing to serve as a STEM ambassador within the University and beyond

Selection Process

  • Applications will be reviewed by a designated Scholarship Committee comprising faculty and professional staff. (CEO, Provost, Dty Provost, CFO, HR Manager, Head of Computer Sciences)
  • Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a panel interview to assess academic aptitude, motivation, and leadership potential.
  • The final recipient will be selected based on a combination of academic merit, financial need, and alignment with the scholarship’s STEM objectives.
  • The selected candidate details will be shared with LU and TAG management.
  • The selected candidate will receive official notification upon final approval by the Scholarship Committee and endorsement from LUG.

Award Conditions

The Founders’ STEM Scholarship continues for the duration of the undergraduate programme, subject to the following conditions:

  • Academic Performance: The recipient must maintain excellent academic progress and grades as defined by LU’s academic policies and the Scholarship Committee: minimum average 80% during the Foundation year and minimum average A- (18) during the undergraduate years.
  • Mentorship Participation: The awardee must actively participate in the mentorship programme associated with the scholarship, which is designed to build leadership skills and prepare beneficiaries for future careers in STEM. They must also meet any programme-specific requirements.
  • Internship Participation: The awardee will engage with internships as directed by LUG, whether internal to the campus or with external employers.
  • Scholarship Engagement: Awardees are expected to contribute to the broader scholarship community by offering peer support and engagement services, aimed at helping others overcome academic or personal challenges.

Application Deadline

All applications and supporting documentation must be submitted on or before Tuesday, the 30th of September 2025.

Policy Review and Amendments

Lancaster University Ghana and Transnational Academic Group reserve the right to review and amend this policy periodically. Any changes will be communicated through LUG’s official channels.

Misconduct, Breach, and Termination

The Founders’ STEM Scholarship may be revoked or terminated at any time if the awardee engages in conduct that violates the terms of the scholarship or the values of Lancaster University Ghana or Transnational Academic Group. Grounds for termination include, but are not limited to:

  • Breach of Policy: If the recipient commits a material breach of any obligation outlined in this policy or related agreements governing the scholarship.
  • Academic or Disciplinary Action: If the recipient is suspended, dismissed, or otherwise separated from the University for academic misconduct or disciplinary reasons, or if it is determined that the recipient is unable to continue the programme.
  • Criminal Conviction: If the recipient is convicted of a criminal offence, excluding minor traffic violations not resulting in a custodial sentence.
