A few weeks ago, something remarkable happened at Lancaster University Ghana. In our Foundation Students Innovative Management module, students didn’t just complete another academic task—they took part in a dynamic live business pitch session that showcased leadership, creativity, and entrepreneurship in action.

Turning Ideas Into Action

From the start, the Innovative Management and Leadership (IML) module was designed to go beyond traditional business theory.

While students explored leadership models and entrepreneurial frameworks, the true impact came when they were asked to build something of their own.

Each student or group developed a full business model, complete with branding, marketing strategies, operations planning, and financial structuring. It was learning through doing—and doing with purpose

Presentation Day Energy

When the final presentation day arrived, the excitement was palpable. Students wore custom-branded outfits aligned with their startup concepts. This wasn’t just style—it was strategy. From logos to business cards, every detail reinforced their business identity.

In front of a live audience of lecturers, guest professionals, and fellow students, they pitched confidently. Questions like:

  • “Who is your target market?”
  • “How scalable is your solution?”
  • “What makes your brand unique?”

were met with thoughtful, well-prepared responses. It was clear these weren’t just rehearsals—they were rehearsing for reality.

Real-World Skills in a Classroom Setting

This experience empowered our Foundation Students Innovative Management approach to education. Beyond classroom knowledge, students gained vital real-world skills such as:

Public speaking

Critical thinking

Team collaboration

Business planning

Leadership and resilience

As one student shared:

“This was the first time I truly felt like an entrepreneur—not just studying it, but living it.”

The Power of Mentorship

None of this would have been possible without the support of Lancaster University Ghana’s academic staff. Lecturers acted as mentors, guiding students through ideation to execution. Their feedback was continuous, constructive, and transformative.

From Classroom to Boardroom

By the end of the event, it was evident: these are not just students. They are future strategists, founders, and business leaders. The entire exercise stood as a proud moment for both students and their mentors.
