Lancaster University Ghana is supporting Ghana’s National Amputee Football team, the Black Challenge, as they prepare to represent the country at the 2026 WAFF Amputee Football World Cup in Mexico.

The Black Challenge secured their place at the global tournament after emerging as champions of the 2024 African Amputee Football Cup of Nations in Cairo, Egypt. Ghana defeated Morocco 2–1 in the final to retain the continental title and secure qualification for the 2026 World Cup. The tournament will take place from 13–22 November 2026 in San Juan de los Lagos, Mexico, bringing together 24 national teams from across the world.

As part of its commitment to inclusion and community engagement, Lancaster University Ghana is supporting the team’s preparations by making its football field available for training sessions ahead of the tournament. The University is also providing refreshments and selected items to support the team during its training programme.

The initiative reflects Lancaster University’s wider commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, which specifically recognises disability as an area requiring support and inclusion. This is central to our university community, with a commitment to ensuring that people are treated with dignity and respect and that no one is disadvantaged because of who they are.

For Lancaster University Ghana, supporting the Black Challenge is therefore about more than providing access to a football pitch and refreshments. It is an opportunity to translate the University’s commitment to inclusion into practical action by creating space for talented Ghanaian athletes to prepare, compete and represent the country on the global stage.

As the Black Challenge prepare for Mexico, Lancaster University Ghana is proud to play a small but meaningful role in their journey and to stand behind a team that continues to demonstrate what determination, talent and opportunity can achieve.

Lancaster University Ghana wishes the Black Challenge every success as they prepare to represent Ghana at the 2026 WAFF Amputee Football World Cup.
