Over seventy students graduated from Lancaster University Ghana in an undergraduate graduation ceremony at Movenpick Grand Ambassador Hotel, Accra on Wednesday, 21st September, 2022. This annual graduation ceremony celebrated the sixth undergraduate graduating cohort from Lancaster University Ghana.

The graduation of the class of 2022 was presided over by Lancaster University’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Andy Schofield and was broadcasted on the university’s Facebook and YouTube pages. During his address the Vice Chancellor stated ‘I remain very proud that Lancaster is the first British university to establish a branch campus in sub-Saharan Africa. At a time when there is such profound uncertainty and volatility in so many countries, Lancaster remains resolute in our determination to be a university that is open to the world. We believe in building bridges not walls.’
At this year’s graduation, the university awarded seventy-eight students Bachelor’s Degrees in the following courses: Economics and International Relations, Politics and International Relations, Accounting and Finance, Computer Studies, Business Management, Business Studies, Marketing and Law. This diverse cohort had students from various countries such as Ghana, Nigeria, Gabon, Ivory Coast, Congo, India and the United Kingdom.
Special awards were presented to outstanding students for their academic achievements. The Chancellor’s Medal was awarded to Immaculater Mmesoma Ibeh (LLB Hons Law), for being the most meritorious student in the cohort. In addition, The Founders’ Award, which recognises the students who best embody the values of TAG (Loyalty, Integrity, Attitude, Competence and Commitment), and has demonstrated this throughout their time at the University, was presented to Kwame Keli Quashie (BA Hons Economics & International Relations). The Lancaster Award, which acknowledges students’ extracurricular activities which enhance employability was also presented to thirteen students.
The sixth graduating cohort was honoured to have a number of dignitaries from top corporate national and international institutions attend the ceremony. Amongst such was the British High Commissioner for Ghana, Her Excellency Harriet Thompson who attended as the Guest Speaker for this year’s graduation ceremony. Also in attendance were Simon Guy, Lancaster University UK Pro-Vice Chancellor, Dr. Emmanuel Arthur, Lancaster University Ghana Provost and Mr. Daniel Adkins, Group CEO of Transnational Academic Group, Hon. Ken Ofori-Atta, Minister of Finance and other faculty from Lancaster University.
Since its inauguration in 2013, Lancaster University Ghana has grown tremendously and now have over 400 alumni from the campus in Accra. This branch campus offers the same high quality Lancaster degree right here in Accra. Students also have the opportunity to participate in many exchange programmes throughout their academic journey. Alumni have gone on to further study in countries such as Mauritius, the UK and USA, and to work in industries such as telecommunication, education, banking and finance and oil and gas, with a number of them having started their own businesses after graduation.
