At Lancaster University Ghana, we offer our students extensive careers activities, workshops and opportunities alongside their studies to support our students to become attractive candidates in the global job market.
Alongside the quality of education our students get, we also offer numerous career programmes and resources for students, to ensure they are job-ready in their home country and anywhere else in the world.
During the summer vacation of the 2021/2022 academic year, over 50 students participated in the LUG Summer Internship Programme to gain hands-on experiences in their fields of study.
We interviewed a couple of our students who participated in the Summer Internship Programme to share their experiences with us:
Meet Stephanie Asare-Kodua, an Economics and International Relations student who interned at Stanbic Bank Ghana as a Corporate Assistant to the Executive.
“On a daily basis, I make calls to new customers for the purpose to onboard them to verify their application details, provide solutions to the concerns they may have and receive feedback for their experience so far. Working at Stanbic Bank Ghana has created the path for me to be vigilant and to be actively engaging customers. At first, I thought the bank was all about work and transactions, but here, they have created an environment that is friendly to all and just like every other Friday, we wear casual.
I am really grateful to be working in this firm. Special regards to the Career Officer and Student Affairs for getting me this placement. This is an experience I’ll never forget!!”
Meet Nana Adwoa Safo-Pyne, a Marketing student who interned at Coca-cola.
“My internship at Coca-Cola in the Market Execution Department so far has been challenging and wonderful. I had to develop activation plans to sell-out products during events and reconcile products sold with the sales team. I visited various Coca-cola distributors and understood the Route – Market system in selling products to customers. The most exciting part of my internship was a trip to Ada for their annual Asafotufiami festival to partake in sales activations and manage sales promoters during the 5 days period.
My experience has boosted my confidence level through interactions with customers in trade and how to use my marketing skills to get them to purchase products. Coca-Cola has pushed me to my limits, and I would love to work with them again.”
Maami Yaa Tweneboah Abass ( Politics and International Relations, ’22) and Alice Danielle Nzoppa Nzambo ( Business Management, ’23) are two of our students who interned at the Ghana-India Trade Advisory Chamber.
“As Administrative assistants, we write minutes, assist with reception duties, keep track of the chamber’s activities, priorities, and deadlines. We also helped in planning one of the chamber’s biggest events this year, which is the Global Africa Business Dialogue. With these, we hope by the end of our internship here, we will gain more skills and real work experience to set us on the path towards a global career. We are also hoping to learn more about Ghana-India Trade.”
Meet Tonia, a final year Marketing student who interned with Coca-Cola.
“First of all I want to show such gratitude to Lancaster university Ghana and the coca-cola bottling company of Ghana for making my internship a possible one. I’m grateful for the opportunity given to me to work with the commercial department, specifically the market execution teams. All in all , I had such a great experience working with this prestigious company. It was interesting experiencing the practical aspect of a module I took last academic year (Routes to market) . Through some of our trade visits ,I gained more insights on the links between the company (manufacturer) and its intermediaries . The importance of interpersonal relationships skills as the cultural setting allows both mangers and subordinates to relate closely encouraging inclusivity in the workplace. I am thankful for the amazing team that I worked closely with as they impacted me with much knowledge for career and personal developments”.
