On Wednesday, 22nd February 2023, the Politics, Philosophy & Religion and Law faculty organised a joint industrial visit to the British High Commission for all students enrolled in our Politics and International Relations, Economics and International Relations and Law programme.
During the industrial visit, the Deputy High Commissioner Keith McMahon MBE gave the students an insight into what it is like working at the commission and their current foreign policy regarding contemporary issues of global concern.
Students were given a walkthrough of the commission, exposing them to the daily workflow. They also had the opportunity to learn more about the Chevening Awards programme, which develops future leaders by offering scholarships and fellowships to study in the UK.
There was a question-and-answer session that gave students a lot of invaluable insights. This was an eye opener to them as their first up-close experience with people who have been working in the industry for many years.
It was a much-needed event which left students feeling inspired as they had the opportunity to hear and interact with our alumni working at the British High Commission as well.
“As a Politics and International Relations student, I was really happy when I heard we would be visiting the British High Commission. Coming here gave me an idea of what it’s like to work at a high commission. We also had a chance to learn more about the Chevening Awards Programme, which was great for me considering that I would like to pursue further studies after my undergraduate degree programme. In all, I would say this visit was an eye opener and I really learnt a lot” said one student from the PPR department about her visit to the British High Commission.
Studying at Lancaster University Ghana goes beyond theory. Students benefit from plenty of opportunities to gain a deeper understanding of their coursework through industrial visits and practical workshops.
