“From my first finance class at LUG, I knew I wanted to be involved in global financial markets,” he shares. “The opportunity to intern in London was the perfect step to realize that goal.”

Kafui’s internship ran from June 17 to August 23, 2024, and was marked by intense learning and high-level contributions. He worked on four major sell-side transactions valued at over £500 million, preparing marketing materials, facilitating buyer communications, analyzing data sets, and assisting in due diligence. This experience immersed him in the fast-paced, high-pressure environment of investment banking.

“The most rewarding project was a comprehensive evaluation of an FTSE 250 company,” Kafui reflects. “This individual project honed my analytical skills and provided a deeper understanding of assessing publicly listed firms. It was a challenging task that allowed me to merge academic learning with real-world application.”

Kafui’s journey at Jefferies was not without its challenges. He recalls long hours and the necessity of quickly adapting to complex transaction workflows. Yet, within this demanding environment, he grew the most. “The experience sharpened my technical abilities and heightened my attention to detail—an invaluable skill in high-stakes financial transactions,” he notes. Beyond technical skills, he developed communication, time management, and networking abilities, benefiting from interactions with seasoned bankers who mentored and inspired him.

Reflecting on the internship’s impact, Kafui adds, “This experience broadened my view of the financial landscape and solidified my desire to pursue a career in investment banking. Studying concepts in class is one thing, but participating in cross-border transactions gave me a new level of confidence and insight.”

Kafui’s successful internship is a testament to LUG’s commitment to equipping its students for global excellence. His journey, from a motivated student in Accra to a Mergers & Acquisitions Analyst in London, inspires his peers and underscores the value of seeking new challenges.

“My advice to fellow students is to be open to opportunities and to never underestimate the value of practical experience. The combination of learning and doing is what sets you apart,” he advises.

LUG celebrates stories like Kafui’s as part of its mission to empower students and prepare them for impactful careers in a globalized world.
