As part of a series of activities organised by our all-female Student Representative Council in celebration of International Women’s Day, a Women’s Empowerment Conference called ‘She’s In The Lead’ took place on 17th March, 2021.
The conference brought three established and successful female professionals from different industries together on our campus to share their experiences throughout their career journeys. The speakers were:
Maame Yaa Mensa-Bonsu – Law lecturer at University of Ghana
Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah – Director-General, Welfare, Ghana Police Service, and
Laureen Lokko – General Management professional with over twenty (20) years General Management experience at Executive and Senior Management Levels of multinationals.
These women shared ideas on how the girl child or a woman can overcome adversities in life and turn them into success. In all the information shared by each of the women, they all agreed that women need to take into account that what they do is not only for themselves, but as representatives of women, both locally and internationally, and how they are perceived.
Women must learn to be resilient, versatile, confident, self-developed, acquire networking skills and most importantly, never procrastinate. They must set goals and strive to achieve them no matter how long it may take; never losing sight of them.
Congratulations to the SRC for organising such a powerful and impactful event!
