Lancaster University Ghana (LUG), through its Emerging Technologies Centre (ETC), in partnership with Stanbic Bank Ghana, has officially launched the 2026 Emerging Technologies Bootcamp, an intensive eight-week programme designed to equip 30 Senior High School students from private and underserved schools with foundational knowledge and practical skills in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Robotics, Programming and Innovation.
The Bootcamp, sponsored by Stanbic Bank Ghana, will run over eight consecutive Saturdays from 18 July to 5 September 2026, providing participants with hands-on learning experiences, practical technology projects, mentorship, an industrial visit and exposure to emerging technologies that are shaping the future of work. The programme will culminate in a Capstone Project Showcase, where students will present innovative technology solutions developed throughout the Bootcamp.
The official opening ceremony brought together representatives of Stanbic Bank Ghana, Lancaster University Ghana Management, teachers, facilitators and students to celebrate a shared commitment to developing Ghana’s next generation of innovators and technology leaders.
Delivering the welcome address, Prof. Raymond Dziwornu, Academic Director of LUG expressed the University’s profound appreciation to Stanbic Bank Ghana for partnering with the University to nurture future innovators. He noted that the partnership reflects a shared vision of investing in young people by equipping them with the skills, knowledge and opportunities needed to become the leaders, innovators and problem-solvers of tomorrow. He reaffirmed Lancaster University Ghana’s commitment to providing practical, industry-relevant learning experiences that prepare students for an increasingly technology-driven world.
Speaking on behalf of Stanbic Bank Ghana, Mrs. Yvonne Agbesi, Head of People and Culture, reaffirmed the Bank’s commitment to empowering young people through digital education, innovation and skills development. She noted that initiatives such as the Emerging Technologies Bootcamp reflect Stanbic Bank’s belief that investing in young people today is an investment in Ghana’s future workforce and digital economy. She encouraged the students to seize the opportunity presented by the Bootcamp, remain curious, disciplined and committed throughout the eight-week programme, and make the most of every learning experience. She emphasized that the knowledge and practical skills they acquire could become the foundation for future careers in technology, entrepreneurship and innovation, enabling them to make a meaningful impact on their communities and beyond.
The Chief Information Officer of Stanbic Bank Ghana, Mr. George Abban, challenged participants to embrace curiosity, courage and innovation throughout the programme. He encouraged the students to ask questions, think differently and develop practical solutions to real-world problems. In a further demonstration of the Bank’s commitment to nurturing innovation, Mr. Abban announced that Stanbic Bank Ghana will provide support for the three best Capstone Projects developed at the end of the Bootcamp, giving students additional motivation to transform their ideas into impactful solutions.
Providing an overview of the academic journey ahead, Dr. Pius Gadosey, Head of the Computer Science Department at Lancaster University Ghana, congratulated the selected participants for earning a place on the programme and challenged them to make the most of the unique opportunity. He explained that participants will receive practical training in programming, coding, Artificial Intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), robotics and 3D printing, culminating in the development of Capstone Projects that address real societal challenges through innovative technology solutions.
The Emerging Technologies Bootcamp forms part of Lancaster University Ghana’s broader commitment to advancing technology education through its Emerging Technologies Centre. Throughout the eight-week programme, participants will undertake a carefully structured curriculum covering Artificial Intelligence, block-based programming, Python programming, robotics, automation and project development. Beyond technical learning, students will also benefit from presentation skills training, mentorship from industry professionals and an industrial visit that will expose them to real-world technology applications.
