We are proud to celebrate the outstanding achievement of Lancaster University Ghana alumnus and former Class Valedictorian, David Bereibibo Bristol-Alagbariya, who has been awarded both the University of Bristol Think Big Scholarship and the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Scholarship to pursue an LLM in International Commercial Law at the University of Bristol.
David’s journey from Lancaster University Ghana (LUG) to Bristol reflects a commitment to academic excellence, leadership, service and a growing ambition to contribute to Nigeria’s development.
During his time at LUG, David served as a mentor in the University’s academic mentorship programme, supporting younger students while developing his leadership and communication skills. He also represented LUG in the Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, where the team placed third at the national rounds, strengthening his interest in advocacy and international law.
Beyond academics, David served as an Electoral Commissioner, helping to organise student elections and contributing to the wider student community. Reflecting on his time at LUG, he describes it as a period of academic growth, leadership, service and experiences that shaped the person he is today.
Following graduation, David returned to Nigeria and began his legal career, spending over a year in corporate and commercial practice. His work on commercial transactions and business advisory further developed his interest in cross-border trade, investment and the role of law in facilitating international commerce.
His LLM at Bristol marks the next step in this journey. For David, the scholarships represent more than a personal achievement, providing an opportunity to gain knowledge and international exposure that he hopes to apply to Nigeria’s development, particularly in the Niger Delta, with a focus on international trade, investment and commercial development.
Looking back, David believes Lancaster University Ghana gave him more than a degree. The opportunities to lead, serve, compete, mentor and grow continue to shape the professional he is becoming.
As he begins this next chapter at the University of Bristol, the Lancaster University Ghana community celebrates David’s achievement and looks forward to seeing the impact of his continued academic and professional journey.
