Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (Team 1) was adjudged the winner of Lancaster University Ghana’s maiden edition of the Inter High Schools’ Debate. Walking away with a trophy, 50% scholarship, cash prize of GHC 2,000 and goodies from LUG.

Adisadel College and Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School (Team 2) finished strong winning 1st and 2nd runner up respectively. Adisadel College took away a trophy, GHC 1,200, 40% scholarship, certificates and goodies from LUG. Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School (Team 2) also walked away with GHC 800, 30% scholarship, certificates and goodies from LUG.
 
The maiden edition started with 6 teams from 6 different schools in the first round. Competing schools were Presbyterian Boys Senior High School, Vilac International School, Dayspring International School, Adisadel College, Accra Academy Senior High School and Penfield International School. 
 
This debate was aimed at advancing sound arguments on educative and intellectual discourse among the students. Also, to make students analytical and critical in their thinking before drawing conclusions on issues as well as how abreast they were of current issues.
 
Topics for each round of the debate was centred on a variety issues confronting society; political social and economic. Introducing them to such debate topics was a great way to get them intellectually stimulated. These students enjoyed debating as it provided variety and allowed them to become passionately involved with an assigned topic. 
 
Teams were awarded scores according to the set criteria by the judging panel. Each team consisted of 4 students from the same school.
 
Professor John Grainger ( Provost, Lancaster University Ghana) in his remarks at the finals encouraged students to make use of their debating clubs to boost their confidence, think critically, broaden their knowledge base and enhance their oral and communication skills.
