In August, we announced that we were launching our first Hackathon & Creative Writing Competition and invited secondary school students in their penultimate and final year of secondary/high school to enter any of the competitions in their areas of interest.
This competition took place online and students who registered for the Hackathon had were required to go through two rounds of the competition. In the first round they had to do a timed online quiz. After this quiz, the top scorers progressed to the second round, which required them to solve a case study assignment within a specified time period.
Students who registered to participate in the Creative Writing competition were given essay topics in Business, Arts and Computer Science and required to write an essay of up to 1,000 words in one area. This competition gave participants an exciting opportunity to win amazing prizes including 50% scholarships to study at Lancaster University Ghana, and shopping vouchers of up to GHS 1,000. In recognition of the role school counsellors also played in their students’ university application process, each winner also got won shopping vouchers for their school counsellors.
