Faith Montessori school’s Investors Team has won the maiden edition of the Lancaster University Business Cup Challenge held in Accra.
For their prize was educational scholarship for participants and four thousand Ghana cedis spending money.
Team Lower six of Roman Ridge School and the A Team of Faith Montessori were adjudged the first runner up and second runner up. They also won GH¢1,200 with educational scholarship and GH¢ 800 also with educational scholarship respectively.
The Lancaster University Business Cup Challenge competition is aimed to provide an opportunity to senior high students to exhibit their entrepreneurial and business skills in solving real societal problems.
It exposes students to the critical realities of the business world and brings hands-on learning about entrepreneurship to the door step of young people.
Students were encouraged to review and implement real life business plans, analyse critical business scenarios and present their cases to an academic and professional panel headed by Professor John Grainger, Provost of Lancaster University Ghana.
Ten teams drawn from four schools were challenged to design a theoretical application to enhance the international tourist footfall through the Kotoka International Airport.
To ensure the fairness and transparency of the competition, the teams appeared before a panel of independent judges who determined the performance of each team against the competition criteria during their presentations.
Speaking at the event, Professor Grainger commended all the partners and the participating teams for making the Business Cup Challenge a success.
He urged Ghana Tourist Authority (GTA) to consider implementing some of the excellent ideas exhibited by the students to enhance the tourism sector of the country.
Mr. Daniel AsafraTibu, who spoke on behalf of the Executive Director of GTA, advised the students to strive for greater achievements.
He commended Lancaster University Ghana for this initiative to enhance students’ capabilities through the competition, which was based on work readiness and entrepreneurship.
Mr. Edem Kwami Akator, a representative of Stanbic Bank, encouraged the students to confront challenges that may come their way in any given situation and conquer to be successful in the global job market.
