Lancaster University Ghana is proud to announce that Dr. Francis Kwabena Atta, Head of the Department of Politics and International Relations, has been selected as one of only two Ghanaian scholars for the prestigious Study of the U.S. Institutes (SUSI) for Scholar’s programme, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State.
Dr. Atta joins an elite group of 108 scholars from across the world selected for this year’s cohort. He will be participating in the institute on U.S. Foreign Policy, hosted at the University of Delaware, with programme administration by the University of Montana.
The programme will provide a unique platform for academics and policy practitioners to explore the formulation and implementation of American foreign policy, engage in dialogue on global governance, and examine the influence of key factors such as think tanks, the media, and multilateral institutions.
Dr. Atta’s selection is a significant achievement and a proud moment for Lancaster University Ghana, underscoring the institution’s growing footprint in global academic exchange.
“It’s an honour to represent Ghana and Lancaster University Ghana on such an international platform. I look forward to engaging with colleagues from around the world and bringing back knowledge that will benefit our students and enrich classroom learning,” Dr. Atta said.
The SUSI programme runs for five to six weeks and includes both academic sessions and integrated study tours across the United States. Its goal is to foster mutual understanding and equip scholars with a nuanced view of American society and policy frameworks.
As Lancaster University Ghana continues to strengthen its role as a centre for academic excellence and global engagement in West Africa, achievements like these reinforce LUG’s mission to nurture faculty and students who are prepared to contribute meaningfully both locally and internationally.
