Francis Botchway is the Head of the Department of Law at Lancaster University, Ghana branch. He is also Senior Counsel at the prestigious McNair International law firm headquartered in London. He obtained law degrees from leading universities in Ghana, Canada, the U.S and the UK, and held the Sir William Blair Chair in Alternative Dispute Resolution at Qatar University, College of Law. He served as Associate Dean of Research and Graduate Studies for five years at Qatar University as well as Head of the Legal Unit at the Research Division. He teaches and researches in International Investment Law, International Law, Natural Resource, Comparative Law, and Alternative Dispute Resolution. He was previously a Lecturer and Reader at the University of Warwick Law School and Hull University in the UK.
Whiles teaching in the UK, he was appointed Adjunct Professor at Leuven University in Belgium and was a Visiting Professor at the University of Puerto Rico. He served as a Consultant on TradeLab, providing legal services to governments, NGOs and businesses. He is consulted by law firms in the UK, the US and elsewhere on litigation and arbitration matters. He has published books and scores of articles in leading international journals in Europe, United States, Australia, Asia and Africa. He is the Editor-in-Chief of Global Journal of Comparative Law. His forthcoming book is on Defences in International Investment Law, to be published by Routledge, UK. He has also edited a book on International Commercial Courts, scheduled to be published by Springer in 2024.
